February Wisdom of the Earth Promotion: Feel the Love❤️ Self Love & Self Care

With February 14th right around the corner, the world tends to focus on romantic love.  We are all for that here at Wisdom of the Earth, however for this month’s promotion, we would like to broaden the focus to include self-love and self care.  I align with the perspective that, the more we can love and care for ourselves, the more we can offer love and care to others. So we are going to address the beauty and the power of love in all of its forms in this month’s promotion themed: Feel the Love: Self-Love and Self-Care.

We’ve gathered a collection of delightful plant essential oils and hydrolats  that are here to remind you that your heart is your body’s sanctuary.  It is the place from which all emotions flow.  Whether you’re looking to shift heavy energy to a “lighter” emotional state with Helichrysum , find community with the steady strength of Cedarwood, or simply clear the air and start fresh with a mist of Lavandin, these offerings are an invitation to treat yourself with the same tenderness you’d give a dear friend.

Our focus moves beyond the “bubble bath” version of self-care (though that is not all bad…sometimes I do love me a bubble bath!) and digs into the deeper stuff: grounding your spirit, protecting your boundaries, and honoring the skin you’re in.

So “welcome in” and meet the botanical companions ready to walk you back home to yourself.  From the sun-drenched fields of Albania to the high desert of Sedona, Wisdom of the Earth’s home, here are some of the ways the Earth says, “I love you.”

These are the details and intentions behind this month’s choices…priced to enable you to try something new that calls to you, or stock up on an old favorite…perhaps with greater insight into how it can support you in bringing your capacity for love to a new level.

Once again, here is the “administrative” side of participating in our monthly Promotions. Please read these instructions, even if you have participated before, as some ordering  aspects may have changed.

1.  The 40% off promotional offer on these select items runs this Friday, February 13th, starting at 12:01 am, and ends Sunday, February 15th at midnight, Mountain Standard Time.  Insurance is included in the shipping cost, which covers leakage, damage or loss.

2.  If you normally order through your Wisdom of the Earth teacher or distributor, please do so for this promotion.  You will receive the same 40% discount you would receive ordering directly from us, and doing so honors the ongoing relationship you have with our representative. They are also able to advise if you have questions regarding whether something would be helpful for you, and how to apply it most effectively for the use you have in mind, etc.

3.  We have programmed the site to reflect the 40% off prices for these ten items; for reference, the regular price is shown in the product descriptions below.  When you place an order for any of these ten products, the discounted price will be applied automatically.  No coupons are necessary.

4.  The name of each product in the descriptions below is a link to the product on our website’s on-line store, if you want to go directly to it.  Or, you can just make a list of the ones you are interested in as you read through the descriptions, and use the search function on the website to take you to them when you are ready to order.  The picture of each plant, with the name of the product in the center that accompanies the description, is also a “link”, and if you click on the name it will take you to that product’s location in the e-store as well.

5.  The promotional pricing cannot be combined with any other discount you may qualify for on these ten items (for example, our 10% discount for locals), however if you wish to include other regularly priced items in your order,  just enter your regular discount code, and it will be applied to the other, non-promotional products.

6.  Please remember, these promotions result in lots of orders in a short amount of time, so we appreciate your patience, as it may take considerably longer than usual to process and ship promotional orders.  If you have not received notice by email that your order has shipped by Friday, February 27th,  please contact us so we can research the status of your order.

7.  Important!  If you experience any problems placing your order during the promotion, let me know via the website Contact Us form, or send me an email at [email protected] explaining the issue.  If we can’t get back to you until after the promotion, we will still honor the promotional pricing if you have contacted us during the promotional period.

There may be some products in the Promotion you have never heard of…this is a great opportunity to try something you have not used before.  There are also a number of customer favorites (and one of my favorites…Albanian Lavender) in the group.   As always, we will highlight the healing properties of each product; for your broader information, cultural and spiritual aspects of these beautiful offerings will be noted, as well.

Meet the products in this promotion!

Cedarwood (Virginia); Eucalyptus, Mint (Wild); Feverfew; Helichrysum gymnocephalum; Lavender (Albanian) (Organic); Marjoram, Spanish (cineole); Orange (Sweet); Tansy (Common); Rose Hip Seed Oil (Lycotop); Lavandin (grosso) Hydrolat (Biodynamic)

Cedarwood (Virginia) Juniperus virginiana

First of all, let’s allow Virginia Cedarwood to teach us a little about botany.  As the botanical name shows, this tree is actually a Juniper.  However, the common name reflects that the people in the region perceived this tree as a Cedarwood.  At Wisdom of the Earth, we actually have four types of Cedarwoods…Virginia & Texas, both of which are actually Junipers, and Himalayan & Atlas, both of which are “true” cedarwoods.  As many of their medicinal properties overlap, their essential oils have more in common than not.

Medicinal Benefits: A powerful respiratory decongestant and lymphatic stimulant that aids in reducing water retention and cellulite. Its antiseptic properties make it ideal for treating oily skin and scalp conditions. Cedarwood is excellent applied over the adrenals for energy.  Many people have depleted adrenals due to our diets, lack of exercise and hectic lifestyles…this oil, applied directly over the adrenals first thing in the morning, provides great support and noticeable energy.

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Known as the “Oil of Community,” it provides structural strength to the spirit, helping those who feel isolated to reconnect with others and find their “inner anchor” during times of chaos or crisis.  Particularly relevant in our current times.

Historical Significance: Historically used by Native American tribes in purification ceremonies and sweat lodges to clear negative energy and promote physical healing.

Retail Price:  15 ml $27; 120 ml $189

Eucalyptus Mint (Wild)  Eucalyptus dives

Medicinal Benefits: High in piperitone, it is exceptional for breaking up deep mucus in the lungs and soothing sore muscles. It also acts as a cooling agent for the skin. For those who find the aroma of traditional Eucalyptus too strong (and evoking memories of being slathered with Vicks Vaporub as a child) this variety offers a milder, softer fragrance, while still offering  serious healing power.

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Provides a “breath of fresh air” for the mind and restores inner direction.  It helps clear mental fog and exhaustion, allowing for a renewed sense of motivation and clarity.  Eucalyptus dives is the “quiet clarifier”,   perfect for people who want clarity without intensity, boundaries without hardness, and uplift without overstimulation. It’s a self‑care ally for those who need to return to themselves gently but decisively.

Historical Significance: Indigenous Australians used Eucalyptus leaves in “smoke infusions” for fever and respiratory distress; the “Mint” variety was specifically prized for its invigorating scent.

Retail Price:  15 ml $25; 120 ml $175

Feverfew Tanacetum parthenium

Medicinal Benefits: Studies have shown that Feverfew, which contains a high proportion of parthenolide,  is helpful in reducing the occurrence and intensity of migraines. So many people experience migraines that this is a wonderful self-care tool to reduce the toll they take on energy and productivity.   It also eases the symptoms of certain types of arthritis that are due to inflammatory issues.

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Encourages the release of “hot” emotions like anger and resentment. It acts as a mental coolant, helping one step back from obsessive thoughts to regain perspective.

Historical Significance:  Feverfew, historically named from the Latin febrifugia (“fever reducer”), has a long tradition of being used to treat fevers and inflammatory conditions in Europe, earning it the nickname “medieval aspirin”.  While its name implies direct fever reduction, today’s usage focuses more on its anti-inflammatory action,  and strong evidence that it lowers high fevers is limited.

Retail Price:  15 ml $40; 120 ml $280

Helichrysum Gymnocephalum

Medicinal Benefits: Unlike the more common H. italicum, which is known most for its skin care properties, this Madagascar variety is high in cineole, making it a superior choice for clearing the respiratory tract and boosting the immune system. I remember a friend who loved to play tennis in the spring…but he would get so congested from the various pollens and other air-borne allergens that he usually ended up staying indoors.  At my suggestion, he tried the Helichrysum gymnocephalum…a few drops applied just inside each nostril immediately before playing…and was delighted to find that he no longer had to stay indoors on a beautiful spring day!

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Encourages the “clearing of the old” to make room for the new.  It helps shift stagnant energy and supports a “lighter” emotional state when feeling weighed down by responsibilities.

Historical Significance: This specific variety is also known as “Rambiazana”, and has been used for centuries by the renowned Malagasy healers of Madagascar in traditional steam baths to ward off illness and cleanse the spirit.

Retail Price:  5 ml $57; 15 ml $149; 120 ml $1,043

Lavender (Albanian) Organic  Lavandula angustifolia

Medicinal Benefits: This organic variety is exceptionally rich in esters, offering profound anti-spasmodic and skin-healing properties, particularly for scars and irritations.  Like all pure lavenders, this beautiful offering is amazing for bruises, and also aids in healing sunburn, and other types of minor burns.  My favorite “hack” for burns from ironing clothes or brushing up against a hot pot or skillet on the stove is cold water, followed by lavender, followed by cold water, and then a drop or two more of lavender.  Works like a charm!

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits:  Emotionally, Albanian Lavender helps soften the tightness created by self‑criticism, overgiving, or long‑held tension. Its aroma feels like an exhale you didn’t realize you were holding, reminding you that rest is not a luxury but a necessity.

Spiritually, this lavender supports the practice of re-parenting yourself, clearing the old stories, inherited expectations, internal noise—so that you can hear your inner truth beneath it all.

As a self‑care ally, Albanian Lavender teaches the art of soft boundaries. Not walls, but breathable space. It helps you slow down enough to notice what your body, heart, and spirit are asking for. In this way, it becomes a companion for self‑love rituals—baths, journaling, breathwork, or simply placing a drop over the heart and letting yourself breathe into it.

Historical Significance: This lavender from the Balkan region is celebrated for its purity and potency, having been harvested for generations in the sun-drenched fields of Albania.

Retail Price:  5 ml $18; 15 ml $46; 120 ml $322

Marjoram, Spanish (Cineole)  Thymus mastichina

We have here another botanical “puzzle” much like the Cedarwood/Juniper essential oil we started this promotion with!  Scientifically, this plant is not a marjoram.

It is high in 1,8-cineole, giving it a fresh, penetrating aroma similar to marjoram.  To the historical “nose”, this plant “felt” and “acted like” a marjoram, even though it wasn’t;  by that I mean the plant was traditionally used in much the same way (cooking and medicine) as marjoram, and in those days, herbalists often grouped plants by their function rather than strict plant heritage.  Exporters also wanted to use the regional or more familiar name to assure the foreign buyers understood the plant’s affect and uses.  So…we have here another example of how botany tells one story, and aroma/herbal tradition tells another, and both are true in their own way.

Medicinal Benefits: Supports digestion and relieves bloating. Calms the nervous system, easing stress and anxiety. Acts as an expectorant, helpful for respiratory issues, reflecting its cineole content. Mild analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.  Some find it offers great relief for headaches/migraines, and massage therapists often love to use it for tight muscles…as it relaxes them and makes it easier to work out the knots.

My massage therapist from many years back said that Marjoram melted my tight shoulders “like butter”.   She was so sold on it, she ended up taking our Foundational Medicinal Aromatherapy class to learn more because the oils made her “work” (manipulating and soothing sore muscles) so much easier!

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Traditionally used to promote peace, comfort, and emotional healing. Associated with love and protection rituals. Encourages relaxation and openness in meditation.

Historical Benefits: Revered by the ancient Greeks as a symbol of joy and happiness. Used in Roman times for culinary and medicinal purposes. Employed in medieval Europe for preserving food and warding off illness.

Retail Price:  15 ml $33; 120 ml $231

Orange (Sweet) Citrus sinensis

Medicinal Benefits: High in limonene, it supports the immune system and stimulates the lymphatic system. It is also a gentle digestive aid and skin brightener. Sweet Orange is found in many natural cleaning products because of its antibacterial properties, helping to reduce stale or stagnant odors in interior spaces and creating a fresher, cleaner environment.

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Known as “Liquid Sunshine,” Sweet Orange banishes gloom and perfectionism. It reminds the soul that life is meant to be joyful, encouraging a playful approach to self-care.  Has been referred to as a source of emotional nourishment…quite a thought-provoking phrase.

Historical Significance: Once so rare they were given as gifts for royalty, oranges have long symbolized prosperity, fertility, “the good life” and the radiant energy of the sun.

Retail Price:  15 ml $24; 120 ml $168

Tansy (Common) Tanacetum vulgare

A word about Common Tansy…this is an essential oil that commands respect.  It is to be used sparingly, with care, and with discretion, due to its high thujone content.  Thujone can be neurotoxic in high amounts, and has a long history of being treated with respect and caution in herbalism.  But it was used, and it it still being used, with knowledge and  care due to the following benefits:

Medicinal Benefits: Laboratory studies have found valuable anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial  properties. As in ancient times, today’s research is also evaluating its potential to repel insects, affect certain parasites, and inhibit larval development.  This mirrors its long folk use as a household insect deterrent and the plant was hung in barns and doorways.

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits:  Tansy is known as a guardian plant, and as an essential oil, it helps one set firm boundaries. It is excellent for those who feel “spread too thin,” helping them reclaim their personal space and time.  It is also a symbol of sovereignty, and for those who have been violated, denigrated or dismissed, a drop on the sole of each foot can begin to restore your emotional strength and self-love.

Historical Significance: In the Middle Ages, Tansy was a “strewing herb” placed on floors to repel pests.

Common Tansy essential oil is not advised for those pregnant or lactating, and children of all ages.

Retail Price:  15 ml $40; 120 ml $280

Rose Hip (Lycotop) Seed Oil  Rosa rubiginosa

Our farmer in South America has created this variety by using only the red seeds from the rose hip, selected from among the other yellow and gold seeds, due their high concentration of lycopene,  a powerful antioxidant pigment found primarily in tomatoes, watermelon, and red fruits.

Medicinal Benefits:  According to the article “The Health Benefits of Lycopene” published on the WebMD site  (October 14, 2024), anti-oxidants are molecules that fight free radicals, which cause cell damage linked to a wide array of health conditions including cancer,  diabetes and heart disease.  By stabilizing these free radicals, scientists believe that lycopene may reduce the risk of developing chronic illnesses.  Studies have shown that it is highly beneficial for heart health by improving blood pressure and reducing cholesterol, and it supports prostate health, with studies linking high consumption to lower cancer risks. Additionally, it protects skin against UV damage. https://www.webmd.com/diet/health-benefits-lycopene

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Fosters a sense of “inner beauty” and self-worth. It encourages the individual to nurture their physical “vessel” as an act of sacred devotion.

Historical Significance: Rose hips were used during WWII in the UK to make syrup for children as a vital source of Vitamin C when citrus was unavailable.

Retail Price:  10 ml Rollerball $27; 15 ml $30; 120 ml $210; 500 ml $819; 1000ml $1,539.00

Lavandin Grosso Hydrolat (Biodynamic) Lavandula x intermedia

Medicinal Benefits: A refreshing spray that provides immediate hydration to the skin.  It is also excellent to spray on minor burns and sunburn between the Lavender/cold water treatments cited earlier.  It is lovely sprayed in a bedroom or lightly sprayed on bed linens, offering an inviting, romantic energy.

Spiritual/Emotional Benefits: Acts as an energetic “aura cleanser.” It quickly shifts the mood of a room or your personal space, washing away tension and replacing it with a sense of calm serenity.

Historical Significance: The “Grosso” cultivar is the quintessential lavandin of the Provence region in France, used for decades in the finest aromatherapy products and hydrolats.  This particular hydrolat is part of a limited production from a wonderful farmer in California.  She is one of the very few biodynamic producers in the US. and Wisdom of the Earth is proud to support her work.

Retail price:  120 ml $40; 500 ml  $152; 1000 ml  $273

General Usage Guidelines: Accessing Nature’s Medicine

Please note: Since WOTE only offers pure, single (unblended), undiluted essential oils, unlike the vast majority of companies, they can be considerably more potent than the average person is used to.   As we have had several questions from new customers about usage, we will provide some general guidelines here (see below) and also touch on usage, where appropriate, in each description.  These guidelines and techniques are covered in-depth in our Level 1 Medicinal Aromatherapy classes, but we are now reaching a larger audience, so we want to be responsive to that.

General Guidelines:  We do not recommend taking essential oils internally; the most effective therapeutic mode of use is topically, over the area of concern (e.g., over the stomach, if digestive issues occur).  A few drops in a bottle of water is fine, but normally, we advise topical application, going to the soles of the feet if an essence is hot (temperature-wise) or skin sensitive/photo-sensitive.

A good rule of thumb for an average adult is 5-7 drops of an oil; for children over 12, 3–4 drops; below 12, 1-2 drops on the soles of the feet.  Remember, the body only absorbs/utilizes about 50%, on average, of the oil applied (just as when you take a vitamin, you do not actually receive 100% of its total benefit, but actually 50-75%+ depending upon a number of factors, e.g., dietary fat, molecular structure).

So keep that in mind when you are deciding how many drops to use. If you want to receive/utilize approximately 5 drops, then you should increase the “rule of thumb” accordingly, taking into account your body will not be getting 100% of the actual amount of drops you apply topically.  So, in that instance you would generally need to apply a total of 8-10 drops.

There is no need to be nervous about “doing it perfectly”.  As Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD, a leader in the field of aromatherapy has written, essential oils are, by their nature, benign.  But people are different,  situations are different, and oil quality varies greatly in the US.  Just like cooking, you can always add more, but you can’t remove what you have already put in.  So,  start conservatively, and appreciate that application is more of an art than a science.  But once you get familiar with the oils and learn how your body reacts to them, it will become second nature.

Please do not hesitate to consult with your Wisdom of the Earth aromatherapist, or contact us, if you have questions about application or usage.  We are happy to give product information, but if a health situation is complicated or serious, we would suggest you consult your health professional or schedule a consultation with Cynthia Olivera, Educational Director, or Audre Gutierrez, Owner.
